Life List #2 - Boston on the 4th of July

Since I stopped writing regularly a few years ago, I am behind on keeping up with the incredible experiences I've had as we've crossed things off of my Life List! I certainly won't be able to do justice to the details of most of them, since they have gotten a little bit fuzzy over time, but it can't hurt to try and at least capture some of the memories and share some of the pictures from our adventures.

In my methodical way, I'm starting at the top of the list and working my way down to see what I've done, with whom, when and where. First up: spending the 4th of July in Boston!

This idea is a perfect example of how writing the things down that I really wanted to do turned into a family vacation that we all enjoyed. With this idea as the nucleus, we spent two weeks in New England touring vacation spots, historic sites, spending time with Justin's family, and adding one more race to the pursuit of a marathon in all 50 states.

I will say up front, Independence Day in Boston lived up to the hype! We spent a few days in the city that was the cradle of liberty for the colonists, walking the Freedom Trail, boarding the U.S.S. Constitution, participating in a Tea Party, taking the water taxi across the Harbor, climbing to the top of the monument on Bunker Hill, and seeing the city from the water on our Duck Boat tour.

It was a beautiful July day, despite some rain in the afternoon. We got a little bit wet as we toured Harvard in Cambridge, but not so much that our plans had to change. We walked our way back through the MIT campus to set up for watching fireworks on the banks of the Charles, where we found to our delight that the city set up speakers to hear the Boston Pops concert even across the water from the famous Shell.

We rounded out our time in Boston with that most All-American of All-American things to do, watching our Houston Astros take on the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

It was certainly a trip to remember, and it happened in part thanks to #2 on the list!
