The theater, the theater!

One of Caroline's loves is definitely the theater. We were blessed with the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, and saw so many shows there with the traveling Broadway season. Her love of drama, acting and singing has translated to middle school drama, too. Participating in the school musicals at Holt the last two years were definitely some of her favorite things in middle school, so when she learned that Shattuck would have a spring musical, she was all in to try out and be a part of the show!

Despite an excellent choice of the monologue "there's no crying in baseball!" from A League of Their Own, Caroline missed out on a lead part in Annie, Jr. She did, however, get to be a part of one of the ensembles, and after many weeks of practices and rehearsals, it was time for the show to go on!

After seeing The Lion King, Jr., and Mulan in Arkansas, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect for production value from a middle school musical. I was impressed, though, with Neenah's commitment to the arts. The scenery and costumes were terrific, and the kids were so talented! Of course, we were there to see Caroline, so we were delighted when her ensemble came out for the rendition of "You're Going to Like It Here" when Annie joins Mr. Warbucks at his mansion.

I was never a theater kid, but Caroline enjoys it so much, and it makes me happy that she's found an outlet for her energy and enthusiasm for performing. I'm excited to see her continue with theater, as beyond just the performing, I know it builds confidence, a sense of responsibility and commitment, and hopefully will be a way for her to meet friends here in Wisconsin.

Living the Wisconsin Life

Much to my surprise, I live in Wisconsin. This isn't a place I would've put on a list of likely destinations or homesteads, if pressed to do so at some point in my life. Even more to the point, when originally presented with the career opportunity that would eventually bring us here, I spent a few months emphatically stating that "it sounds great, but I'm never moving to Wisconsin." Ahhh, the quintessential Famous Last Words. Our timing might have been better; we moved here right as the seasons were turning to fall and now winter, so we have yet to experience the moderate nature of the climate up north. Grand Canyon Rim to Rim, Part 4 - the climb out (Bright Angel Trail)

the GRCA GRLS after crossing the Colorado River - Sunday, September 16th, 2018 Sunday morning, the alarm went off... and it was a simultaneous chorus of HOLY MONKEYS MY LEGS AND FEET ARE KILLING ME!! I honestly am not sure how we actually got out of the beds... all of the body was screaming. All of it. Shannon had us all supplied with Motrin, thank goodness, so we rucked up and headed out. NATURALLY! What else would West Point Women do?! First stop was the canteen, where a full, hot and delicious breakfast was ready for us to sit down family style. A little throw back to our cadet days, eating with strangers and shoveling in the food as fast as we could! coffee for energy!
